1. Build a shortlist
Start with three to five local companies. Personal recommendations are the best source, followed by reviews that describe specific moves. Favor companies with a real local address and a long track record.
2. Verify each one
Ask for each company's TxDMV registration number and look it up on the Texas DMV website. Make sure the name and address match. Check reviews across more than one site, and read how the company responds to complaints.
3. Get comparable quotes
- Give every company the same inventory: rooms, large items, stairs, elevators and distance from the truck to the door.
- Ask whether the price is hourly or flat, and how travel time, fuel and materials are charged.
- Get every quote in writing.
4. Pick the right service
Decide what you want the movers to do: loading and driving only, packing, furniture disassembly, or special items like pianos and safes. Paying for packing can save days; packing yourself saves money.
5. Book and confirm
Book early for summer and month-end dates. A week before the move, confirm the date, arrival window, crew size and price in writing.
